Love Thyself…
The Self Love question I ask most people is:
“If you met you on the street, would you shake hands with you? Talk to you? Hug you?”
The answer ideally, should be yes.
In reality, more often than not, the answer I receive is no.
So why is that?
Because most people don’t like themselves, which is unfortunate, because I like them. I can see in them what they fail to see within themselves. They fail to see their beauty; their intelligence; their kindness; their compassion; their passion; their empathy. What they do see is their vulnerability; their perceived faults; their physical flaws; ultimately, the judgement they have for themselves.
We are here on Earth as souls to grow. To experience a spectrum of emotions; to have experiences with one another to complete lessons, repay karmic debt, to experience the physical world in a variety of roles within a myriad of lifetimes in order to gain a deep awareness of what it is like to BE EVERYTHING. We are God experiencing ITSELF.
You have been the mother, the father, the daughter, the son. You have been the victim, the perpetrator, the sinner, the saint. You have been the male, the female. You have been the everything, and by being the everything, you have the ability on deep soul level, to have compassion and empathy for the everything, because the soul does not forget. It remembers the life in which you drowned, that is why you do not like swimming. It remembers the lifetime of being a farmer, that is one of the reasons you love being in open fields. It remembers the lifetime of living in the water, which is why you love being in the water.
Your soul remembers everything. Every little bit. The skills you have acquired, the knowledge you have learned, it is all there within you, and all there ready for you to acknowledge and remember. But in order to do that, you need to love yourself. You need to see yourself as the bright and beautiful light that you are, regardless if you cut someone off in traffic this morning or muttered an insult to a loved one. You need to have the deepest appreciation for yourself, because you are a radiant mirror to all those around you. But how can you see yourself?
Look around.
WE ARE ALL MIRRORS.
Can you see them? The people around you are the reflection of you.
The good, the lovable, the rough-around-the-edges, the things we need to work on. It is all there for you to see. What you see in others is what is within you. If they are reflecting something that doesn’t sit right with you, ask yourself: “Is this reflecting an element of me that I need to work on?” and then honestly, sit with it. Look at it. Get into it. This is part of shadow work. Looking at the elements of you that you avoid dealing with at all costs because it is too raw and too hard to deal with.
We contain the light and the dark. It is duality, but in order to find balance, to find harmony between the two, we must reflect, process, heal, and amend. This is not an easy process. In fact, it may be one of the hardest things you as a soul may do, but do you must, because I can tell you that you are an amazing being until I run out of breath, but it means very little until you believe it.
